Beam gives you control at every stage — but the expectations around cancellation differ depending on where you are in the process.
Before a call is booked: full control
When a question is matched to you, you choose whether to respond. There's no obligation to answer every question you receive. If a question is outside your expertise, not a good fit, or you simply don't have capacity right now — you can pass without any consequence.
After a call is booked: cancel only if necessary
Once a client has booked a call with you — whether a discovery call or a paid session — a cancellation has real consequences. The client has committed time and, in the case of a paid session, money. Cancelling damages trust and reflects on your reputation on the platform.
That said, life happens. If you absolutely need to cancel a booked call:
Cancel as early as possible — give the client maximum notice
Reach out directly to explain if appropriate
Contact Beam support so the situation can be handled correctly on the payment side
Beam monitors cancellation patterns. Repeated cancellations after booking may affect your standing in the Lead Pool.
Common questions
Can I decline a matched question without penalty? → Yes. You're never obligated to respond to a matched question. Passing has no consequence on your account.
Can I cancel a booked discovery call? → Yes, but do it as early as possible and contact Beam support so the client can be informed and rescheduled.
Can I cancel a booked paid session? → Yes, but this is a last resort. The client has paid upfront. Contact Beam support immediately so the payment situation can be handled correctly.
What happens to the client's payment if I cancel a paid session? → Beam handles refunds on a case by case basis. Contact support as soon as you know you need to cancel.
Will cancellations affect my profile or Lead Pool access? → Repeated cancellations after booking may affect your standing in the Lead Pool. Beam monitors cancellation patterns.
